Further Reflection

1) The Beatitudes reveal true flourishing is not based on worldly power or status, but rather on humility, dependence on Christ, and a longing for righteousness -ultimately fulfilled through Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. How does the present reality of future eternal life and the “kingdom of heaven” in Jesus change the way you live today?

2) What does the phrase “Blessed are the poor in spirit” mean, and how does it challenge our cultural views on self-sufficiency? Do your beliefs, thoughts, and attitudes reflect a total dependence on Jesus?

3) What does it mean to “hunger and thirst for righteousness,” and how can we cultivate that hunger in our daily lives? Are there any other specific Beatitudes that feel uncultivated in your life?

4) Read the entire Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). Ask God to deepen your dependency on Him and bear fruit in specific areas.
