Further Reflection

1. What are some specific challenges you face for living a public faith in Christ in today’s culture? How do you personally respond to criticism or persecution for your faith? Reflect on 1 Peter 4:7-19.

2. How can we support fellow believers in communities or workplaces where standing for Christ might be difficult? Take time to pray for the persecuted church around the world.

3. Jesus uses the example of a city on a hill and a lamp placed on a stand. What does this imagery teach us about our role in the world? What do you think it means to live “openly” for Christ rather than hiding your faith? What could a “next step” look like for you personally?

4. How can we be distinct from the world in our attitudes, actions, and priorities while still engaging with people who don’t share our beliefs?
