The Mask-Querade

masquerade:
2. to assume the appearance of something one is not

So as I walk into a store I have to wear a covering over my face or a mask. It’s designed to keep me from infecting someone or someone infecting me.
But as I was talking to someone in a store recently I realized  that they couldn’t tell if was frowning or smiling at them.  I thought I was being nice and was indeed smiling but it occurred to me that they had no idea what was going on.

Then I thought to myself about my childhood. When we were kids and someone did something we didn’t like we would stick out our tongues. Something that Im guessing isn’t a thing anymore.  Of course if my mother noticed such a display I would be in hot water for sure because it was never considered a nice thing to do.  That said today you can get by with that and no-one would ever know.   What a time!

Made me think about how easy it is to hide behind a mask during even normal times. I am not talking about the kinds of physical masks that we wear today. I am speaking of the charade or act that we present on the outside when we assume the appearance of something we are not.
We can pretend everything is okay when it’s not and we can pretend and act like we are walking with our Lord when we are not, we can just pretend about everything. In fact our lives can be pretty much a lie that we show to the world.

As I go out wearing a mask you may not know what is written on my face or what I am thinking but rest assured our Heavenly Father knows. He sees all and knows even the thoughts and intents of our hearts even when we are hiding it from the world.

Hebrews 4:12  “For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
